Measurement: Weight and Using a Balance

In math, we extended our measurement unit to explore weight.
We weighed different things this week using a balance scale.
We learned some important words like:
lighter, heavier, equal weight
Check out our balance drawings!

Camden is using his hands like a balance scale as he weighs
two different objects.
Eli is drawing what his balance scale would look like when he
weighs two objects.

How does a balance work?
We recorded these visuals in our math journals.

Hippiest in the House!

Hippiest in the House

Congratulations to Camden and Caroline!
They were our February and March "Hippiest in the House" students.
We are so proud of our two friends for showing these awesome character traits!

Contributions and Leaders of Texas

In Kindergarten, we have two very important Texas leaders to learn about:
-Stephen F. Austin
-Jose Navarro

As a class, we discussed what a contribution is.
We talked about how we can contribute at home, school or even in our community.
Here are a few of the contributions we came up with:
-Helping others when they are hurt
-Picking up trash in our classroom or around our school
-Cleaning up our rooms at home
-Giving food to the needy

We tied our discussion of contributions to our special Texas leaders.
How did these leaders contribute to our state?

Stephen F. Austin contributions to Texas:
-He helped bring families to Texas to live.
-Schools and a university is named after him
-Our state capital is named "Austin" from SFA
-Known as the "Father of Texas"

We compared George Washington to SFA.
How did they both contribute to us as Texans and Americans?

Magnets

We explored MAGNETS this week!!!

Is it magnetic or non-magnetic???

Each table had a group of items to "test."
We grabbed our magnets and began!

Then, we took our magnets around the classroom
and tested other objects to see if they were magnetic or not.
So fun! Magnets are so cool!

We used a t-chart to organize our data.
Magnetic or not?

We created a magnet on Thursday.
We had to draw things that were magnetic on the magnet
and things that were not magnetic on the repelling card.
They turned out so cute!

Capacity

How much will this container hold???

We learned about capacity.
Capacity is "how much" something can hold.
We looked at different containers and made
predictions about how much we thought they could hold.
Then, we filled our containers with different
objects (cubes, counters, beans, rice, etc.)
and counted how many scoops or the number of cubes it would hold.
We LOVED filling these containers to their max capacity!!!
Lastly, we ordered our containers from the least to greatest amount of capacity.
Check out our hard work!!!

We had a BLAST at Frisco Safety Town!
