The Holidays are Here!

This week, we began discussing and exploring holiday celebrations around the world. Here is our tree map with all of the facts we learned about:

                                          -Kwanzaa
                                          -Hanukkah
                                          -The Chinese New Year
                                          - Christmas

Our Holidays Around the World Tree Map

We read a poem called The Best Present.
Then, we talked about what we thought the best present was.
It was so sweet to hear!!!
Here is our circle map of  "best" presents.

Caroline thinks the best present is a Christmas Tree.

Aydin thinks the best present is our families.

Sophia said her mom is the best present ever.

Tanner said Jesus is the best present ever.

Poetry

We are learning so much about POETRY!
We learned about what poems always have and what poems sometimes have.
We started discussing and reading all kinds of poetry.
Check out our anchor chart and some of the poems we read:

We read multiple poems and poetry books.
Leena is picking out one to read.

This is one of the poems we read.
We practiced visualizing what we thought the "dog" looked like.

As we read, we drew our thoughts.
Then, we read the last stanza  of the poem and decided what we thought this creature was,
based on the clues we read in the poem.

To our surprise...the neighbor's dog was a CROCODILE!!!
AHHH!!!

Merry Snow and ICE!

BBRRR!!!
It's cold outside!

I hope you all have stayed warm and cozy these last few days!
Mr. Shelby and I were quite disappointed that we didn't get to run
our favorite marathon this year.
Yet, it was nice to have a few days off to relax.

However, when your driveway is iced over, this is what you do when you
need a few things from Kroger and to catch up on our favorite movies:

Our ski gear and backpacks came in handy!

Good Writer's Use Spaces

In Writer's Workshop, we are learning and reviewing what a
good writer can do when they write.

We discussed how we do not
want our words to have a "car crash" (run together).
Spaces are important to our sentence structure.
When you use spaces, you can read your writing with ease.

Check out our anchor chart below:

We practiced creating spaces in our writing by using a
Spaceman or Space girl.

Our space people help us to "space out" our words.
So fun!

Seasons

In Science, we have learned so much about the 4 seasons.

Take a look at our seasons' posters we created:
