Soil

During Science, we learned about soil. We discussed different uses of soil and water. Then, we explored some soil!!! We found rocks, wood chips, and different materials in our soil. It is so much fun to be a little scientist!

Measurement

This week, we continued to explore measurement. We had a blast measuring our feet and different items around our room. We used non-standard measuring tools to help us measure. Some of these tools were our links and unifix cubes.

STAAR Testing Dates

Parents,

I just wanted to remind you of our upcoming STAAR testing dates, which will take place on April 2nd & 3rd (Tue and Wed of next week).

Furthermore, it is a state policy that there is to be “no visitors” on campus during our testing dates. This applies for the ENTIRE day. You will not be permitted to have lunch with your student, no volunteers, mentors, or visits to the clinic or library will be allowed.

However, it is fine for a student who is not testing to have a dr. appointment; yet, you will need to contact the front office to sign out your child-- like always.

Again, we thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time. We greatly appreciate it! J

All About Dr. Seuss!!!

"Oh, the places you will go..."
We learned all about Dr. Seuss.
We read some great stories by him too!

If You Put Me In A Zoo
Green Eggs and Ham
The Cat in the Hat
Hop on Pop
Oh, The Thinks You Can Think!

Here are a few activities we created:

We made The Cat in the Hat booklets.

Inside, we wrote about what we would
do if The Cat in the Hat came to our house.
"I will hide stuff because I do not want to clean up the stuff."

What would happen if Thing 1 and Thing 2 came to your house too?
"I would kick Thing 1 and Thing 2."

"If The Cat in the Hat came to my house, I would call my mom."

After reading, "Oh, The Thinks You Can Think," we created a visual of our thoughts.

This is what one friend is thinking about...."This is my sister." "She has a dress."
"I am feeding the ducks at the park."

"What will happen if I ride the unicorn?"
"Why did Thing 1 have blue hair?"

"What if the grass was growing today?"

Water

In Science, we studied properties of water. We did an experiment using water, eye-droppers, and wax paper. We learned that some items repel water and some items absorb it. Also, we made water drops to observe. So fun!

Our Open House was a huge success!!!
Thank you to all of the Room Moms for helping
with different projects and constructing our amazing hallway scenes.
Also, thank you to all of the families that came out that evening!
I hope you all had a blast on our farm!
Happy Spring Break!

More about the FARM!!!

We had such a blast learning all about life on a farm.

Here are a few more projects:

Our favorite place on the farm graph
Our "junk" face farmers
Our seats at open house with our project folders
Our folktale chart: The Three Little Pigs and The Wolf's Side of the Story

Our Farm Project Folders

We read and compared different folktales like The Three Little Pigs.

Here are the friends that believe the wolf's side of the story.

Most of my friends believe the pigs' side of the story.

After reading, we wrote about whose side of the story we believed.
Then, we shared our writing with each other.
