Check out Kasey's star poster, circle map,
and the book we created for her!

Here are a few of Kasey's favorite things:

Animal: dogs
Restaurant: Pizza Hut
Color: torquiose
Best Friend: Addison
Food: pizza
Center: Write the Room
Book: Chrysanthemum
Snack: Cereal

 Kasey is a great friend!
She is a wonderful artist
and writer in our class.
She is so sweet to her peers too.
We loved getting to know more
about our special friend!

Our Characters, Settings, and Events!

On Thursday during Reader's Workshop,
we created our own stories
using different characters, settings,
and events.

Each pair decided to write their
own story and use these elements
to share it with our class.

I will have to say...their stories were FABULOUS!
They were fun too!
Enjoy our presentations!!!

Our Week!

We began using our "Spacemen and Space girls" for writing.
These little guys and gals help us to put spaces between our words.

During Reader's Workshop, we focused on learning all about
characters, settings, and events in different stories.

These are the charts we created to go inside
our Reader's Response Notebooks.

We picked one character, one setting, and one event to record.

We loved this story about the old lady!

Here is our tree map of characters, settings,
and events from the story.

Everyday, we would discuss and record each story element
using different stories and books.

During Math Workshop, we worked on add 1 more
using tens-frames and buttons.

Matthew is adding 1 more to make a new number.

We showed different numbers on our tens-frames too.

The Great Turkey Race

We read the story, The Great Turkey Race by Steve Metzger. In the story, three turkeys, Cassie, Ollie and Wing, are challenged in different events, like a race, to see who will win the most medals. Whichever turkey wins all of the events, gets to be the "Thanksgiving" turkey... if you know what I mean. :)

So, these smart turkeys come up with a plan to outsmart Farmer Joe and Farmer Kate before they become the highlight of Thanksgiving.

Do you know what they did? They run away!!! But, where did they go? We made up our own ending as to where they went...check it out

The turkeys went to the trashcan.

The turkeys went to school.

The turkeys went to the mall.

The turkeys went to hide.

Thanksgiving Projects

We are just beginning our discussions and projects about Thanksgiving!

On Friday, we discussed the story of the First Thanksgiving. We learned all about the Pilgrims' journey from England to America. Then, we retold the story using different colored construction paper cut into links. Each color symbolized a part of the Thanksgiving story.

Next, we talked about what it means to be thankful. I asked the kids to talk about some things they were thankful for. We made a circle map and then created a class book of things we are thankful for. My class did a great job and we learned about what it truly means to be grateful for what we have.

Check out some of our photos from both activities.

Friday Fun!!!

We had a blast at our Celebration of Learning Friday!
