All About Writing

We are just learning so much in Writer's Workshop!

Here are a few things we are working on as good writers...

We have learned that you can use pictures, letters, and words to write your story.

We made a circle (heart) map of things we LOVE to write about!

"When you think you are done, you have only just begun"...a good writer is always
working hard on their pieces.

A writer needs all kinds of tools. We learned that a good writer needs paper,
pencils, crayons, good ideas, and an audiance to write for. 

College Week!!!

I am so excited about College Week!!!

I love getting to share with my students why going to college is so important. 

"You learn new things that help you in the future

 and you meet new friends along the way!"

Here is our spirit schedule for the week:

MONDAY – Listen to College Spirit Songs as we start our day. Each morning we will play a school song from a different College Band. Discuss with your teacher where they went to college and ask them about their Teacher College Fact Sheet!

TUESDAY – Go future Lone Star Rangers: Wear navy or silver to support your future high school

WEDNESDAY – Team up for college: Wear your favorite College Tee-Shirt or colors.

THURSDAY – Look to your bright future: Wear sunglasses

FRIDAY-  Our future is so bright: Wear your school spirit shirts

Mrs. O'Hearn Visits Us!

Last week, our counselor, Mrs. O'Hearn came

and did a lesson with us on being a respectful, kind student.

She brought her tool box of cool rules and shared a 

story with us about a little pig named Pinkerton. 

Pinkerton always wanted to be first! 
He wanted to be first in line, first to do something,
be picked first...and so on and so on!

We learned that sometimes you

 have to wait your turn and be kind to others in the progress.

Meet Our Book Buddies!

We met our Book Buddies this last Friday!

Mrs. LaBry's 3rd grade class came down to read to us!

We were so excited to meet our special friends!

Orange Day!

Just a reminder:

Orange Day is Thursday. Wear something orange! 

Our FIRST Science Experiment!

On Friday, We did our very FIRST science experiment!

It was awesome!!!

We took a plate full of milk and we added drops of food

coloring into it. We observed what happened 

when the food coloring landed in the milk. 

At first, we just saw dots of color in the milk.

Nothing really happened...:)

So, we took a Q-tip and dipped it into some dish-washing soap 

and placed it in the milk/food coloring combo. 

Take a look at what happened...

We made a rainbow!!!

All of the colors spread throughout the milk and mixed together.
It was very cool to watch!

As good scientists do, we recorded
our observations in our journals.

We drew what we saw first...

and what happened next.

We love science!!!

Weekly Reminders!

• We have changed the date of our WatchDog Dad kick-off meeting from Tuesday, September 17^th@ 6:00pm to Monday, September 16^th@ 6:00pm.

• Orange Day--Thursday! Wear something Orange! 

• Sight Word Baggies---Please send those back tomorrow. We will be adding more words to our bag! :)

Reminders

Items coming home tomorrow:

Sight word baggies will be coming home tomorrow. There will be a note attached to your child's bag with details on when it needs to be sent back to school each week.  Please take a few moments each evening to  practice these word with your little one. Later, I will be sending home a sheet of ideas for other activities to do with these words. :)

Lastly, I will be sending home their "Star of the Week" ---All About Me poster paper tomorrow as well.  Each week, I feature one of my *stars*!  When your student is featured, they will share their All About Me poster. Then, our class will make a special circle map and a class book for them during that week. There is a due date on the All About Me poster. You will see this on the note tomorrow. Please make sure you complete it by this time. Thanks in advance! :)

Author's Chair

Writer's Workshop is taking off!!!

We started learning about ways we can write.

We can write using:

*pictures

*labels

*words

Then, we get to share our writing pieces 

with our friends in the Author's Chair!

"Just Right" Spots

In Reader's Workshop today, we
learned about "just right" spots.

A "just-right" spot is a place where a
 reader can go to read independently.

Check out some of my readers in their "just right" spots.

We picked out books from our book nook.

We placed them inside our browsing bags.

We read our books for 1 minute! YEAH! 

I have some awesome readers this year! 

Our Table Stations

During Reader's and Math Workshop, we are working on some fun table stations!

Tanner is working on an environmental print puzzle. 

We love to READ!

Learning Words

This week, we began working on learning new words!

Our sight words are:

I, am, can, see, like, red

On Tuesday, we created a circle map all about red!

We drew pictures of things that are red.

Grandparents' Day!

We LOVE our Grandparents!!!

We loved eating with our grandparents today!

We had a blast reading this fun story about all of the 

letters of the alphabet climbing a coconut tree. 

So, we made our very own coconut trees.
