Writer's Workshop: Making a Character

In Writer's Workshop, we discussed how our

stories need 3 important things:

-characters

-a setting

-an event

This week, we worked on adding characters to our stories.

Also, we talked about how to add detail to our characters.

Reader's Workshop Happenings!!!

We are ROCKSTAR readers!!!

I am so proud of my stars!

We are building our stamina and practicing good reading skills.

By Friday, we were reading for 6 minutes!

Check out some of our "happenings" in RW this week:

 

We started using our Ready, Set, Read! reading mats this week.

These mats help us to keep our books organized.

It helps us to know what books we have read and

 the ones we still need to read.

We start on the green side and move our books to the red side when we have read them.

 

 

 

 

We met our first STAMINA goal this week!

5 minutes! YIPPY!

So our reward was to read with safari glasses!

We started BUDDY READING this week too!

It is so much fun to read with a friend!

Good readers need help sometimes practicing

their reading skills and building their stamina.

Who better than to help us but our reading friends!

College Week!

I am so excited about College Week!!!

I love getting to share with my students why going to college is so important.

"You learn new things that help you in the future

 and you meet new friends along the way!"

Here is the schedule for our fun spirit days:

 

MONDAY – Listen to College Spirit Songs as we start our day.

Each morning we will play a school song from a different College

Band. Discuss with your Teacher where they went to College!!!

TUESDAY – Go future Lone Star Rangers! (wear navy or silver

to support your future high school). Find out where Mr. Iorio and Mrs.

Grace went to college!!!!

WEDNESDAY – Team up for college! Wear your

favorite College Tee-Shirt or colors.

THURSDAY – Look to your bright future! (wear sunglasses)

FRIDAY- Wear your school spirit shirts to show how bright your

future is!!

A Little Social Studies...

Our Social Studies lesson this week was about

similarities and differences.

We discussed our families and talked about what

makes us similar and different.

 

We drew a picture of our families and shared

them with our pair-share partners.

 

 

Making Sets

 

We learned that a set is a group of objects.

We made some sets using our math tools.

 

 

 

 

We LOVE to move!

So, we practiced making sets by using different body parts.

I would call out a set to make; for example:

Make a set of 3 noses.

Make a set of 4 eyes.

Make a set of 6 feet.

 

The kiddos did a great job and loved getting

together and being creative!

Problem Solving

 

Problem solving is so important in Kindergarten.

We practice our "thinking" skills each day!

Take a look at some of our creative thinking

What's in my box? It's red, round and has holes.

This friend thought it might be a bouncing ball.

with about what was in my box.

They came up with some great guesses!
