A Little Social Studies...

Our Social Studies lesson this week was about
similarities and differences.
We discussed our families and talked about what
makes us similar and different.

We drew a picture of our families and shared
them with our pair-share partners.

Making Sets

We learned that a set is a group of objects.
We made some sets using our math tools.

We LOVE to move!
So, we practiced making sets by using different body parts.
I would call out a set to make; for example:
Make a set of 3 noses.
Make a set of 4 eyes.
Make a set of 6 feet.

The kiddos did a great job and loved getting
together and being creative!

Problem Solving

Problem solving is so important in Kindergarten.
We practice our "thinking" skills each day!
Take a look at some of our creative thinking
problems from this week:

What's in my box? It's red, round and has holes.
This friend thought it might be a bouncing ball.

Here is a list of predictions my kiddos came up
with about what was in my box.
They came up with some great guesses!

It was a BUTTON!

Here are some more problems we solved:

Math Workshop Goodies!

Math Workshop is the BEST!
Since we are working on our counting skills, we made a counting book.
Check out our counting books:
1 lady bug

3 boxes

4 dots

Also, we worked on writing our numbers (0-5).
We played a game called Roll and Record to help us practice
counting, subitizing, and writing our numbers.

Writer's Workshop

This week, we began "true" Writer's Workshop. In Kindergarten, writing is so important and goes hand and hand with reading. Check out some of the things we have been working on:

Our "idea" map

We are learning we can write in different ways.

Our Writer's Workshop expectations

We went book shopping!

It was time for some new books!
We went book shopping on Monday for
some new texts for our book boxes.
I love seeing my little readers excited about reading!!!

College Week: September 15th-19th

COLLEGE IS THE TICKET TO YOUR FUTURE!
September 15th – 19th
Dear Parents,

Robertson is having a College/Career Week! All FISD schools will be celebrating
during this week. The purpose is to teach our students that preparing for a higher
education begins now by setting goals and forming good academic habits. Ms. O’Hearn
will be discussing College and Careers in Guidance this month. Our focus will be
setting goals and working to achieve them.
There will be fun activities throughout the week that emphasize doing your best
in school, the importance of graduating from high school, and taking that next step to
college. We encourage all to participate!

MONDAY – Listen to College Spirit Songs as we start our day.
Each morning we will play a school song from a different College
Band. Discuss with your Teacher where they went to College!!!

TUESDAY – Go future Lone Star Rangers! (wear navy or silver

Dot Math

What can you do with 10 black dots?
We read Donald Crew's 10 Black Dots.
Mr. Crew uses dots in his story
to make his illustrations.

So, we got creative!
 Each student received
an amount of dot stickers
(0-5) to create a dot picture.
Check out how creative my friends are!

Max used 2 dots to create basketballs.

3 dots are a snowman's buttons

Ojas used 3 dots to make a snake.

Scotty used 2 dots to make Olaf's feet.

Brooke used 4 dots to make her flowers.
